Adam Wilson – Head Coach
I began my Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) training in early 2015, inspired by a friend who introduced me to Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). My interest in the sport deepened as I explored various fighting styles, with BJJ standing out due to its focus on using leverage and technique to overcome larger opponents. I have been teaching BJJ for approximately six years, and have actively competed since the early stages of my training. To date, I have participated in over 110 BJJ matches and also had a brief stint in MMA, where I competed in six fights.

Why “Hoplite”?
Hoplites were the primary soldiers in Ancient Greece, and their name derives from the Hoplon, the large shield they held in their left hand. They fought in a phalanx formation, where soldiers were arranged in tight rows and were expected to protect the man to their left with their shield. This reliance on mutual support made the effectiveness of the phalanx dependent on the cohesion and cooperation of the Hoplites. I believe this concept mirrors the essence of our BJJ club, where success is built on teamwork, trust, and shared commitment to each other’s progress.
